PICC'S: PERIPHERALLY INSERTED CENTRAL CATHETERS
This webpage was inspired due to the increasing demand for vascular access within the UCLA system. Several types of central lines exists however this webpage will focus specifically on adult and pediatric peripherally inserted central lines (PICC's). The Information is presented in lay terms for the general population and as a resource for health care providers.
UCLA has developed a dedicated PICC service to place Midlines and PICC lines. Our team is directly affiliated with UCLA's Interventional Radiology Department (IR). With direct collaborative efforts of IR the PICC service has successfully placed approximately 2600 PICC's in 2007-2008.
This website is an overview of UCLA's bedside evaluation, bedside placement, and/or referral to Interventional Radiology for placement of PICC lines. The placement process and patient information is highlighted throughout.
