UCLA Radiological Sciences is committed to advancing health care through excellence in imaging sciences and research education. Recognized as one of the leading radiology departments world-wide, we have research strengths in biomedical physics, computer vision, minimally invasive therapies, and clinical and translational research in several domains.

With the opening of the Medical Plaza 300 Advanced MR Facility in 2004, UCLA Radiological Sciences now offers state-of-the-art clinical and basic research on both 1.5T and 3T MR systems. We have also recently acquired a new dual source Siemens SOMATOM Definition CT scanner that will enable scientific discovery in cardiopulmonary research and other scientific domains. We look forward to our role in crafting imaging research of the future.
Research Infrastructure The Radiology Research Affairs team provides administrative infrastructure support for each of the above-named research groups. Our 7-membered administrative team is committed to supporting, facilitating, and assisting staff, students, fellows, and faculty members of the Department and its collaborators with protocol development and research training. Our goal is to foster the growth of both new and current researchers as well as to provide efficient mechanisms to foster their research endeavors.
Research Training UCLA Radiological Sciences is affiliated with two internationally recognized, NIH-sponsored training programs that offer Masters and PhD degrees:
UCLA Biomedical Physics
This program provides a broad, interdisciplinary curriculum that includes medical physics, radiation biology, bio-computation, and molecular imaging.
Medical and Imaging Informatics
One of two imaging informatics programs in the United States focusing on medical data acquisition/collection, medical data structuring, data modeling, and medical data visualization.
In addition, we are currently in development of a clinical research training program for residents, fellows, and faculty to provide rigorous, personalized training as to the techniques and processes utilized in patient-oriented research. The program will provide formal training and a strong foundation in clinical and translational research through didactic course work as well as a mentored research thesis - from conceptualization to completion.
